Fazenda Mariano has been a family-owned coffee farm since 1909 when it was purchased by Manoel Ignácio Barbosa, the great-grandfather of the current manager, Ricardo. Since then, the farm has been passed down through generations, with Ricardo's father, who was born there, still actively working there today.

The world’s largest coffee producer, Brazil has huge influence in the global coffee market. Although producing more than a third of the world’s coffee, the growing conditions here can be challenging; producers not only have to manage the lower-than-optimal altitudes and non-volcanic soils, but also extreme climate conditions, from drought, to frost. Typically low in acidity, sweet, and heavy-bodied, Brazillian coffee is often easily distinguished and well-loved thanks to its approachable, desirable notes of chocolate and nuts.

    Tasty coffee

    I ordered this coffee for my aeropress and cannot complain about the taste - no bitterness, nice full flavour (not sure I can pick out the marzipan). Only negative is regarding the grind size. It states ‘ground for aeropress’ but unlike my previous purchase of Los Altos, I need to apply an excessive amount of pressure to push the coffee through the filter. May need to buy the beans and a grinder…

    We note your observation about the grind size and the pressure required for your AeroPress brewing. While our standard AeroPress grind setting typically works well for most users, coffee brewing can be quite personal, and we understand that you may prefer a slightly coarser grind for your brewing style.

    Your suggestion about exploring whole beans is interesting - many of our customers do find that having control over their grind size helps them fine-tune their brewing process to their exact preferences.

    Silky Smooth

    A really lovely smooth alternative to resolute. Subtly different but nothing too fruity or overwhelming, just a smooth and slightly sweet fragrant espresso. I've also enjoyed this bean in my Moka, it's been great in that too.
