Los Altos is a geographically dynamic farm composed of just over 70 hectares of rolling hills at the base of Kilambé Mountain. Each time we arrive here, we’re greeted by the workers who come together to create this incredible crop, from coffee growers to pickers.

This coffee is roasted to showcase the relationship between the farm and roastery by highlighting the unique markers of terroir, and imparting our identity on the final cup. This creates a coffee that is approachable, familiar and full of flavour. In the cup there is a soft acidity, full body and creamy finish with comforting notes of milk chocolate and caramel.

The Mierisch family has a rich history in the coffee industry that dates to 1908, establishing themselves as prominent coffee growers and producers. Yet it was only 21 years ago that Senior Erwin Mierisch, the son of Dr. Erwin Mierisch, began focusing on producing speciality coffee. This shift came about when Senior Erwin Mierisch participated in a Nicaraguan coffee competition, where he translated for his father.

Sitting on the borders of Honduras and Costa Rica, Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. Despite its size, Nicaragua’s coffee regions are nestled in a small northern pocket of the country, where unique micro-climates, diverse terrain, and a deep commitment to sustainable solutions has not only rescued a volatile industry, but propelled it into the world of speciality coffee. Consistent in quality, Nicaraguan coffee is well-regarded for its sweeter chocolate and nut flavours, as well as floral notes, and a clean, bright citric acidity.

Lovely apple notes
For once I was actually able to detect one of the flavours described in the tasting notes before reading them. A breakthrough! I very much enjoyed this coffee and would happily order it again. The only downside is that the beans are tough going in my hand grinder (K6).

We understand your comment about the beans being challenging in your K6 hand grinder. While this particular coffee does have a relatively dense structure due to its processing and growing conditions, which can make manual grinding more demanding, it's this same density that helps create its distinctive flavour profile.
