  • Fuyan Farm, located in Menglian, southwest Yunnan, is renowned for its exceptional coffee, locally known as Yunnan Xiaoli Coffee, originating in Baoshan in 1950. Spanning 80 acres at 1600–1700 MASL, the farm integrates coffee cultivation with diverse agricultural and husbandry practices, including livestock, flowers and speciality tea, set against the stunning backdrop of the Yunnan mountains.

Run by Mr. Li and Mrs. Na, Fuyan’s coffees consistently achieve top Q scores in Yunnan, a testament to rigorous quality control and close collaboration with Lahu pickers, an indigenous ethnic group. Handpicked cherries are sorted, fermented in sealed bags for a week, and dried on raised beds before hulling. These practices ensure Fuyan's coffees exemplify exceptional quality and reflect the harmony between agriculture, community, and environment.

Origin

It’s fair to argue that China has long been overlooked when it comes to growing coffee. Given their rich history and culture in the production and ceremony of tea, you’d be forgiven for not naming China in a quick-fire round of countries renowned for cherries over leaves. Yet, thanks for the climate, terroir, and geography, China’s been laying down roots for successful coffee cultivation for over a century. What started as a government drive to boost the industry has matured into a knowledgeable and conscientious steer toward the speciality coffee scene—and with good reason.
